Description

Soft, chewy, and packed with buttery toffee flavor, these Cake Mix Toffee Bars are the ultimate easy dessert. Made with just five simple ingredients, they come together in minutes and bake into a gooey, rich treat everyone will love. Perfect for holidays, parties, or an everyday sweet craving.

Ingredients

For the crust:

  • 1 box yellow cake mix (15.25 ounces)

  • 1 large egg (room temperature)

  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)

For the topping:

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 â…” cups Heath toffee bits (about one 8-ounce package)

Instructions

  • Prepare the pan and oven: Line a 13×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper, covering the bottom and sides. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  • Make the crust: In a large bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, one egg, and melted butter. Stir until a soft, slightly crumbly dough forms.

  • Press into the pan: Spread the crust mixture evenly in the prepared pan, pressing it down firmly into an even layer.

  • Prepare the topping: In the same bowl, whisk together the remaining egg and sweetened condensed milk until fully combined. Stir in the toffee bits until evenly distributed.

  • Assemble: Pour the topping mixture over the crust, using a spatula to spread it evenly to the edges.

Sweetened condensed milk mixture with toffee bits spread evenly over the crust in the baking pan.

  • Bake: Bake for 20–30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set. For the best results, the bars should reach an internal temperature of at least 200°F (93°C).

  • Cool and slice: Let the bars cool completely at room temperature for 1 hour. Then refrigerate for an additional hour before slicing for clean cuts.

Notes

  • Storage: Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 4 days, or refrigerate for up to 1 week. Freeze individually wrapped bars for up to 3 months.

  • Substitutions: Swap yellow cake mix for chocolate or spice cake mix for flavor variations. Heath bits can be replaced with Skor bits or chopped toffee candy.

  • Tips: Chill fully before slicing to get neat bars. A plastic knife or bench scraper cuts cleanly without sticking.
